GRAVEL

Your Red Flint gravel layer will become the home of a beneficial bacteria that will break down ammonia from fish urine and waste into nitrites and facilitate the transformation to nitrates. Nitrates are less toxic for your fish. Gravel is also an excellent anchor for the roots of your plants. Over all Red Flint aquarium substrate is just about the best thing you can do for creating unique beauty and balancing your water chemistry.

SAND

Red Flint sand substrate is naturally occurring in the rivers and streams in nature. This enables familiar environments where sand is needed with your fish species that are not accustom to fast moving rivers that might include larger stones. Sand also closes the space between the particles more-so limiting the debris buildup that inevitably leads to breaking down organics over time which increases nitrates and phosphate and can lower water quality. When debris is on top of the substrate its easy to remove and less time in cleaning.
